Point B RealtyPoint B Realty’s Principal Broker/Owner, Wendy Harman, is quoted today in the Wall Street Journal, as the paper takes a look at what happens when the Obamas buy the house across the street from your Martha’s Vineyard real estate listing.

The Obamas are reportedly buying 79 Turkeyland Cove Road, a 30-acre waterfront estate on the Edgartown Great Pond, in the Katama section of Edgartown. Directly across the street is 82 Turkeyland Cove, Wendy’s exclusive listing. The former first family is reportedly luying a $14.85 million home that sits on 29 acres along Edgartown Great Pond.

For an article titled “On Martha’s Vineyard, All Eyes On Obamas’ Real Estate,” WSJ real estate reporter Katherine Clarke interviewed Wendy at length, on the impact of the Obamas moving in:

“We’re coming into the busy season, so maybe we’ll actually see an Obama bounce,” said Wendy Harman of Point B Realty, who is listing a $4.595 million home across the street from what is believed to be the Obamas’ new home. She initially worried that their security would drive away potential buyers and compound market difficulties. Fortunately, she said she has only noticed one car outside the home’s entrance.

The Obamas rented the home they are now apparently buying for a month this summer. Neighbors said they bumped into them, out walking around, and that they were very friendly, and most said they’re looking forward to having them in the Turkeyland Cove neighborhood. Most residents and renters enjoy the active water lifestyle, on the Great Pond as well as the nearby by barrier beach — only reachable by boat.

Ms. Harman said most locals have enjoyed the Obama family’s presence on the island. When they had dinner in town one night a few years ago, the Secret Service sprayed the letter “O” with temporary green paint on cars surrounding the restaurant, to mark which vehicles had been security checked.

“People wouldn’t wash it off,” she laughed.
