As houses and apartments get smaller, convenience and multifunctional furniture (and rooms for that matter) become more and more essential. Night tables in particular get so cluttered with electronics, lighting and other items, that sometimes it is difficult to find anything on that sea of “stuff.” Night tables seem to be a particularly difficult spot to keep neat; but Evan Dash, the CEO of StoreBound is out to change that.

StoreBound has taken care of this issue with their new Sobro smart side table. “We believe that technology should make life more streamlined and we design products for today’s connected lifestyle and the future yet to come,” says Dash.

The Sobro brand was first launched on Indiegogo (a crowd funding site) in March 2017. According to Dash the original Sobro Smart Coffee Table was a “runaway success” with over 2,000 backers pledging upwards of $1.5 million dollars to purchase the tables. With a refrigerator drawer, Bluetooth speakers, charging outlets and ambient lighting, the Sobro smart coffee table set the bar for future smart furniture innovations.  The coffee table began shipping to backers seven months later and launched in retail stores that same month.  It is now sold by retailers such as Wayfair, Macys and Best Buy and featured in Touch of Modern’s national television campaign.

Dash was the former Senior Vice President of Home at Macy’s for 8 years. After developing strong relationships with manufacturers and loaded with innovative ideas, he set out on his own in 2010 to start his own appliance company. He began with small appliances, such as egg cookers, air fryers and blenders; he later found a niche in reimagining the home business with new product launches, such as the Sobro line. “We bring the rapid pace of innovation that you’d find at a Silicon Valley tech start-up to an industry that has seen little change over the last 100 years, looking at our categories with fresh eyes to identify the opportunities, but have the extensive retail experience to steer clear of the pitfalls”, Dash says.

In 2019, Dash launched the Sobro smart side table, which includes wireless charging, a quiet cooling drawer, Bluetooth speakers, LED lights, and a companion App to control the smart sleep features; and it works with Alexa and Google Home. To future proof the products, he has incorporated Wi-Fi connectivity so the Sobro smart side table can be updated as tech progresses and will be able to be controlled remotely, even incorporating the popular “If This Then That” (IFTTT) platform actions – like changing the lights to blue if rain is in the forecast or blinking when a text comes in from Mom.

Dash says, “We believe the furniture in your home should help you live better. Your side table or nightstand can be so much more than a lamp holder. By incorporating smart technology and smart thinking into our products, we’ve created furniture that can multitask and simplify your life.”
