Now that the first of the year has come and gone and we are settling into the full swing of things, we have to ask ourselves: Where am I in relation to where I want to be? You have already written your goals down, created your vision boards and have all the intentions in the world to accomplish those new year goals. Let’s continue to keep the momentum and not get frozen behind the wheel. Just follow these three tips to keep yourself moving forward.

Are you holding yourself 100% accountable?

If you answered yes, that must mean you have been tracking your progress, checking off your to-do list daily and gaining momentum. At the end of 2020, I felt out of control with my busy work lifestyle combined with the stress of the pandemic. My wife and I decided to challenge ourselves to the 75 Hard Challenge where we went through the grueling schedule of two workouts a day, drank half our body weight in water every day, read nonfiction for 10 minutes every day, as well as sticking to a diet. To keep ourselves accountable, we shared our plans with all our friends and family on social media because even though it didn’t cost us anything and we had nothing at stake, we wanted to finish the challenge. Keep yourself accountable for accomplishing your goals by sharing on social media what you have set out to accomplish. If that’s not enough accountability for you, try the next tip.

Do you have the support of other successful professionals?

For many real estate agents, finding a mastermind group in your locality should be as easy as a Google search. If you are looking to join a mastermind group, one thing to keep in mind is that when it comes to the cohorts in the group, you should always be on the lower end of the success spectrum. You never want to be the top guy in the group or else you will end up only mentoring others without building upon your own strengths and weaknesses. Surround yourself with those who have done bigger and better things than you have ever done in terms of their business success, personal relationships, lifestyle and values. Remember, rule No. 1 of becoming a millionaire is by hanging out with people who would be embarrassed only making a million dollars. Next time you are looking for a mastermind group, speak to the people in your network and set your expectations as to what your ideal mastermind would be like.

If you’ve exhausted your resources and haven’t discovered the right mastermind for you, try to bring one together yourself. Don’t doubt your ability to bring a very successful person to the table. You will be surprised by how many would love to share their knowledge with you. If putting together a mastermind group yourself seems like too much work, you can most likely find a fee-based mastermind group in your area.

Do you have a coach to guide you through obstacles?

I have had a coach for over two years. He is definitely the type of person to tell me what I need to hear and not what I want to hear. Sometimes when I get off my Zoom calls with him and I’m exhausted because of what we discussed in regards to what I need to do. I always end up prevailing because I know he has my best interest at heart and through listening to his advice, I’ve been able to hit or exceed my goals. With coaching, it is essential to be honest with yourself, know where you are at this moment and be willing to do what it takes to see your goals through.

Once you know where you are, it’s time to build off of your current position to keep moving toward your goals. Keep in mind that you should focus on one thing at a time, rather than worry about doing multiple things at once and not really accomplishing anything. Having a coach to help you go over your goals and the steps you’re going to take over the weeks or the months ahead can end up making huge results in the long run.

You can find your coach by connecting with influential individuals and asking around for references. Just remember, only ask people who are at a much higher level than yourself. My rule of thumb is, you don’t want to ask for advice from those who are either in the same position of their career as you or those who haven’t made it to where you are yet. Instead, ask for advice from people who have been there and done that when it comes to the goals you’re trying to achieve.

Hopefully, by now, you have discovered where you are and where you need to go — that is the first step. The next step is executing. Are you ready to be held accountable? Don’t let Q2 come around the corner without making any progress. Reach your goals today by reaching out to someone who can help you maximize your potential.
