The new tallest building in Brooklyn reached its full height this week, at 720 feet spread across 68 stories above the neighborhood of Downtown Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Point, which will offer 468 units, is the first project in the borough from Extell Development, known for headline-grabbing Manhattan projects including the 75-story skyscraper One57, nicknamed the “Billionaire Building,” and the 95-story Central Park Tower, slated to open in 2020. It is the product of a collaboration between architectural firm Kohn Pedersen Fox and Katherine Newman of AD100, who is designing its interiors.

“As the tallest building in the borough, Brooklyn Point represents a milestone for Brooklyn,” Extell senior vice president Ari Alowan Goldstein said in a statement. “The Brooklyn marketplace now competes with Manhattan.”

The building may not maintain its title for long, however, as the upcoming tower at 9 DeKalb Ave., from JDS Development Group, is expected to climb to 1,066 feet in 73 stories and is set for completion in 2022. The projects are part of a boom in new development along Flatbush Avenue, a street that stretches across the borough.

Regardless, the masterminds behind Brooklyn Point said they’re confident the building will stand out. “At Brooklyn Point, we wanted to honor the creative spirit of Brooklyn, while crafting a new landmark for the borough’s downtown,” KPF design principal Rob Whitlock said in a statement. “To that end, we picked up on the diversity of scale and texture of the site’s context in the building’s expression. Brooklyn Point features a sculptural façade, with an eclectic materiality that plays with light and shadow, giving the tower an elegant solidity.”

Residences in the development will be a mix of studios to three-bedrooms. Prices will start at $850,000 and come with a 25-year tax abatement. Northwest Brooklyn has become one of the most expensive areas in New York City, with prices reaching an average of $1,438,771 in the first quarter of this year, according to a market report from the brokerage Douglas Elliman.

The building will feature 40,000-square-feet of amenities, including a 65-foot indoor saltwater swimming pool. It will have a strong focus on wellness, with activities ranging from a 35-foot rock climbing wall, Palates, yoga and cycling studios, sports courts and spa retreats. Among its social spaces will be a co-working office, game rooms, a children’s playroom and a three-story lounge.

Its roof will feature the highest residential infinity pool so far in the Western Hemisphere, next to a sundeck, al fresco dining areas, changing rooms, showers and an outdoor movie screening space.
