The kid’s room at Turnberry Ocean ClubTurnberry Ocean Club

Savvy condominium developers are building more and more family-friendly projects catering to luxury buyers with children. From New York to Miami look to luxury condominiums to include amped up children’s playrooms, kid-friendly swimming pools, roof gardens with super cool playgrounds, video gaming lounges, family barbeques, and outdoor dining areas.

In the Miami area, luxury developers know what well-heeled families want. The Turnberry Ocean Club a new ultra-luxe condominium is offering buyers complimentary membership in the private Turnberry Isle Resort and Country Club, a few blocks away. Members and their children will enjoy the Club’s waterpark featuring a 60-foot tower with seven water slides, a 4,000-square-foot kids pool with an aquatic play structure, and the first FlowRider Triple surf simulation pool in the country. The Turnberry Ocean Club’s six floors of luxury amenities include a posh “Kids’ Club.” Residences are spacious ranging from 3,110 square feet to a 10,750 square foot triplex which offers lots of space for luxury family living.

Dan Riordan president of residential development at Turnberry for Turnberry Ocean Club talks strategy. “As a company, we have long been including family amenities in our projects. We create a lifestyle for the entire family. We have seen the evolution of the luxury family buyer, especially with the South American market.” Semir Sirazi moved full-time to Miami from Chicago with his family 10 years ago. He recently purchased a four-bedroom residence at the Turnberry Ocean Club. “We love the oceanfront location and that you can enjoy all the extensive amenities with your kids no matter their age.”

At Nine on the Hudson, an upscale 278-unit condominium in West New York, New Jersey (just north of Jersey City and Hoboken) by national homebuilder, K. Hovnanian Homes kids count. Located just across the Hudson from New York prices range from the high $600,000s to $3.7 million.

An expansive lawn with jungle gym, barbeque areas and an inviting kid-friendly infinity-edge pool offer good weather activities. “Some Millennials want to live in the city even when they have families. But they often can’t afford to have the space they want, even if that means their kids not having to share a bedroom. Families who don’t want suburban living can live here with a short easy commute to the city,” explains Nine on the Hudson developer Alexander Hovnanian. “We bring luxury style with family orientated amenities to Nine on the Hudson,” he adds.

Inside Nine on the Hudson is a 1,500 square foot colorful playroom with reading nooks, stuffed animals, drawing easels, and kid-size tables and chairs for rainy day activities. Doug and Marilyn Huang moved into their 2,400 square foot, 3-bedroom condo last August with their two young children and couldn’t be happier. “The amenities here are a good combination for us as a family. We use the third-floor deck where the kids can run around on the lawn and throw a ball,” Huang said. “We also barbeque during the nice weather and eat outside which we enjoy. The, whole-set up really promotes family activities,” Marilyn adds.
