Paris’ 8th arrondissement, or district, is widely known for the famed Champs Elysees, the wide upscale retail street that links the Arc de Triomphe monument and the Place de la Concorde public square. Every July, television spectators from around the world watch the corridor closely as the annual Tour de France bike race concludes there.

What may not be apparent to the public eye, is that the chic neighborhood is also a great place to call home – its street level lined with bakeries, food markets, offices, luxury goods stores, embassies and museums.

This classic apartment, set along Rue de la Ville L’Eveque, is about 300 meters from the square and landmark church of La Madeleine and 200 meters from the fashionable Rue du Faubourg Saint Honore shopping street – in the very heart of Paris. Nearby is the Palais de L’Elysee, the official home of the President of France.

“This area of Faubourg Saint Honore/Champs Elysees/Madeleine is very sought after by an international clientele for its location,” says listing agent Charles Daireaux of Groupe Mercure. Despite the adjoining activity, the site of the apartment is not overrun for those who live there. “The street itself is rather quiet,” about half residential and half offices, says Daireaux, who has more than 25 years experience selling high-end real estate.

Occupying the fourth floor of an elegant 1910 building, the residence has been lavishly appointed.

Entered through a gallery with a marble floor are 3,068 square feet of interiors including an expansive living room, an updated kitchen with a center island that opens to a dining room area, a study, four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a laundry room. The primary bathroom has a centerpiece stand-alone bathtub.

“There are not many large apartments available in this area,” Daireaux says, “and it is in an excellent state of repair, luxuriously renovated with air-conditioning — pretty rare in Paris.”

Arch-topped windows above French doors bring natural light into the high ceiling rooms, which feature herringbone-patterned wooden floors. Interior glass walls allow the light to pass from one room to the next, adding to a feeling of airiness.

The asking price for the turnkey property, which includes furnishings, is 6.695 million euros or about US $7.3 million.
