Living in a large penthouse atop an iconic Honolulu high-rise means never missing a sunrise or sunset again. Look in one direction and the sun rises over the mountains of the Ko’olau Range. Look the opposite way, and you’ll see the sun set over the curvy coastline of Hawaii’s capital city.

The more than 5,700-square-foot condominium sits atop One Ala Moana, the 23-story building across from the famed Ala Moana Center, the largest open-air shopping mall in the world.

The property is on the market for $7.88 million.

“The strongest selling point is the size of this property,” says listing agent Julianna Garris of Hawaii Life. “It’s a home in the sky, a single-family home.” Few top-floor condos, especially in newer buildings, have so much space. At roughly $1,247 per square foot, it’s the least expensive luxury penthouse available right now in the Honolulu market, Garris says.

Oahu’s luxury real estate market heats up in June, July and August—and, so far, this year is no exception. Luxury sales on the island grew in 2022, according to a year-end report by Hawaii Life. The island saw 178 sales at or above $3 million to $5.99 million and 32 sales in the $6 million to $9.99 million range. The luxury condominium market accounted for 57 sales, the report said.

The penthouse, one of four on the property, features 12-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass walls that accentuate the top-floor views. The open-plan living room and dining area are filled with natural light and ocean-facing vistas.

Three bedrooms and bathrooms are on one level in almost 3,700 square feet. A staircase leads to the spacious rooftop terrace that has a Jacuzzi with seating for eight people, sun beds, covered dining area, a barbecue and firebox. Wide-angle views of the coast and the interior landscape of the island abound from the nest-like perch.

Amenities that come with the more than 20 condos in the building include a fitness center, massage room, golf simulator, sauna library, infinity pool, putting green, gardens, lounge areas and concierge services. Restaurants, shops and beaches are within walking distance too.

One Ala Moana was built in 2014 by HHMK Development, a collaboration between MacNaughton, the Kobayashi Group and The Howard Hughes Corporation. It was designed by Benjamin Woo Architects and SCB.

The penthouse is located at 1555 Kapiolani Boulevard, No. 2301, in Honolulu. Monthly fees cost $5,408, and furnishings are an optional added cost.
