Go big or go home. This mansion on Kauai holds the distinction of being the largest luxury house for sale on the Hawaii island at more than 11,100 square feet.

But size isn’t the only ample attribute of the North Shore property.

Ocean views stretch from the town of Hanalei, with its crescent-shaped beach, to the landmark Kilauea Lighthouse.

There are three full kitchens.

A detached, temperature-controlled garage showroom can hold 22 vehicles – and that’s in addition to the four-car garage.

The personal residence of the late Pahio Resorts developer and philanthropist Dave Walters was designed with his family in mind. Set on 2.75 acres, the curvilinear home is approached through double gated entries and a circular drive.

From above, the structure has the shape of two half circles. In the center courtyard, a koi and waterlily pond are traversed by three marble walkways. A gazebo stands where the paths meet.

The main residence opens to a living area influenced by the design of the Princeville Resort hotel. A curved wall of windows floods the space with light. Lanais overlook the ocean or take in mountain vistas.

In the formal dining room, another curved wall of glass offers views of the reef.

Set up for entertaining, family life and live-in staff, opportunities for food and drink are always close at hand. There’s a round breakfast room off the curved main kitchen and a wet bar in the living room.

Another kitchen is in the mother-in-law unit or guest suite and the third, outside.

The outdoor kitchen, complete with a grill and pizza oven, is adjacent to a lagoon-style pool with a sandy beach, a sand-bottom hot tub and a saltwater infinity pool.

Of the three bedrooms and five bathrooms, the primary suite is massive with a fireplace, dual bathrooms, dressing areas and its own lanai. An office could be converted to another bedroom suite.

Both a staircase and elevator access the lower level. The three-tiered home movie theater is outfitted with crimson velvet recliners.

A hand-painted mural adorns the temperature-controlled wine cellar. There’s also an interior lap pool, a gym and a recreation room.

The property is less than four miles from Princeville.
