Grapes on the vine outside the back door. Fewer trips to the wine store. Your own private label.

This contemporary hacienda is within La Melonera winery in the province of Malaga, Spain.

Set in meadowland near Rondo, the 200-hectare (nearly 500-acre) Wine and Country Club development contains 30 estate homes. Each has their own vineyard of between 5 and 7 hectares or about 7 to 12 acres.

The grapes grown are traditional varieties including La Melonera or Blasco, which are native to this part of the Serranía de Ronda mountain range. Homeowners not only have personalized labels, but an abundant supply of custom red and white wines as well.

MORE FOR YOU

The hacienda was designed by architect Marcos Sainz, whose residential work is evident in the suburbs of nearby Marbella. His designs often blend modern elements with rustic Andalusian motifs, much like this one.

The minimalist, flat-roofed core of the villa incorporates mature trees and display space for statuary in its blocky design. A wide walkway steps up to the white-walled portico that shelters the entry door.

In contrast, the wings of the house have sloped tile roofs supported by thick beams for a look that blends into the surroundings.

Wide expanses of window walls bring light into the two main living areas. The interior space of 1,172 square meters, or about 12,600 square feet, includes a formal dining room and four en-suite bedrooms. The primary bedroom features a sauna and a dressing room.

The vaulted-ceiling kitchen has a breakfast room and a center island with a cooktop. A glass-fronted wine storage display area can accommodate hundreds of bottles.

Other amenities include patios for outdoor dining and lounging, an elevator, a home automation system and underfloor heating.

A flagstone path leads to the swimming pool, where a deck takes in views of the surrounding countryside.

Holm oaks and olive groves are scattered throughout the enclave of classic and contemporary homes. The community fees cover agricultural expenses, maintenance, bottling processes and administration.

Rondo is less than an hour from the resort town of Marbella and a less than a two-hour drive from the British territory of Gibraltar. The international Malaga—Costa del Sol Airport is 61 kilometers, or 38 miles, away.
