A piece of Hamptons history is on the market.

The four-bed, 6 ½ home at 111 Quimby Lane is listed through Sotheby’s International Realty agent Dana Trotter for $14 million – the first time the property has been for sale in more than 100 years.

In the summer of 1874, patent lawyer and lightning rod dealer Edward Everett Quimby and his family rented a summer home dating back to 1700 on Sagg Pond in Bridgehampton. After leasing that property for 19 years, they decided in 1893 to purchase 32 acres between Ocean Road (then called Atlantic Avenue) and Sagg Pond, a strip that has since been given their name.

The Quimbys continued to develop the land and sell off parcels over time, but they’ve held onto this 3.36-acre plot until now.

“At first he and his family lived in an existing cottage, but as their family grew, he subdivided the property and built several homes over the next 15 years to form the Quimby family compound,” local historian Sally Spanburgh explained. “The original driveway to the compound eventually became a street, Quimby Lane, named after the compound creators.”

The listing arrived on the heels of another historic estate at 72 Apaquogue Road in East Hampton, listed earlier this summer for $16.9 million, which has also been in the same family for more than a century.

The 5,000-square-foot house at 111 Quimby Lane was designed in 1996 by Peter Cook and built by Glen Web in a Balinase longouse style, which is not terribly common in the Hamptons, Trotter noted. It has been continuously renovated over the years and now features a heated gunite pool with a pool house cabana and a detached two-car garage.

The grounds, landscaped by architect Ed Hollander, feature specimen trees, expansive lawns and a meadow.

Inside is a living room with a central fireplace leading to a raised dining room and an eat-in kitchen with counter seating, shaker cabinets,a butcher block island and stainless-steel appliances. A wet bar leads to a rounded sitting room with a powder bath and French doors showcasing the backyard.

Also on the first floor are three of the bedrooms, including a master suite with walk-in closets, a gas fireplace, window seating and a bathroom with a soaking tub and a shower.

The home’s amenities also include radiant heated floors, a central vacuum system, and temperature and humidity control program.

“Quimby Lane has some of Bridgehampton’s largest parcels and oldest estates within a mile of the ocean and they don’t come up for sale often,” Trotter added. “It’s a premier address deep in Bridgehampton South in the old estate section.”
